I did a lot of research before purchasing this carpet cleaner comparing features and weight of the machine.  I love the separate containers for clean and dirty. The collection tank also opens up to allow you to clean the dirty tank. For us pet owners we know what we may have to be sucking out of the carpet that is a big plus. This feature sold me on the hoover over a Bissel. Also it does suck up alot of the water. While it claims no more wet socks, that requires a logistical miracle. You do go back over the carpet a couple times to suck up all the water. It sucks up enough that it is dry with in a couple of hours (with the help of a fan).

my carpet is very light colored and had very dark streaks- some that were made worse by cheap carpet cleaners. This cleaner was a last ditch effort to avoid replacing my carpet and it did the trick. At first I thought it was leaving a good bit of dirt behind but by the time I turned it to rinse and then went over it once to help get the water up, it was great. I highly recommend this model!

After reading only current reviews, comments about poor directions and the tank leaking alerted me to be careful. I agree with the limited directions, ie. how to remove the front piece in order to thoroughly clean the unit. Even some of the pictures were unclear. As for the tanks leaking/ falling off- you must be certain the upper tank “clicks” into place, and it’s not a loud click.  So, if you know where the problem areas are starting out, this is an excellent machine and I would definitely recommend it. After relocating, we’re now living with 18 yr old carpets and having clean carpets is very important. This unit did a fantastic job cleaning! And the carpets dried quickly. It is easy to manuever and not that noisy. I also love the hard surface feature. The brushes did not work magic on the old lineoleum flooring but…after alternative efforts, the unit vacuumed up the moisture and the rinse feature made cleaning the floor a breeze. It would have had 5 stars except for the directions. I’m happy we bought it!!

You name it, I bought it. Until now, each of them seemed awesome for a few times, then their weaknesses became clear. Basically, aside from this, none of them suck up the dirty water like the Hoover Platinum. It’s a really smart machine.

You just hold down the trigger going forward, and keep it triggered while you pull it back. The machine knows which way it is going, and rinses on the way back. Very very smart. I had just done the carpets with a Bissell machine, and the Hoover pulled out more dirt than I’d ever seen a cleaner achieve.

It goes through a lot of water, way more than the others—-which is good, but you do have to refill it fairly often, and dumb the dirt, very simple.

The machine is a bit clutzy when it comes to pulling out and pushing back the fresh water chamber. Maybe I’ll get the hang of it.

That’s about it—vastly superior, perhaps the only machine out there that truly works.

I owned a Bissell Pro-Heat for 8+ years. Once you have any problems with it..it is toast. So, once your Pro Heat breaks down go ahead and get one of these Hoover Pro V’s. You will notice immediately an improvement in the cleanliness of your carpet. Yeah its made of plastic, but what do expect for about $180. It will pay for itself over time. Just like any thing you have.. take care of it..clean it thoroughly after every use..it will last longer.

Pros:

1.# Cleans better than the Bissell Pro Heat. Cost is about the same
2.) Does not seem to use as much carpet cleaner #which is expensive) as the Bissell.
3.) Better suction than Bissell..carpet will dry faster.
4.) The spinning brushes seem to do better on carpet in general and stains.
5.) One tank for hot water and carpet cleaner and separate tank for dirty water..which I like better over the Bissell.
6.) Easy to clean after use.
7.) Removeable hose caddy. You don’t have to carry around what your not using.
8.) Easy to use. Follow instructions carefully for best cleaning results.

Cons:

1.) Heavier/Bulkier than the Bissell Pro Heat.
2.) Made of mostly plastic..but is’nt everything?

This carpet machine should pay for itself over time…when it has a major break down I’ll buy another.
